Welcome to Olga Geissler's Wiki!
This wiki is designed to support my Final Project/Classroom Module for LRC 530 class.
For my Final Project, I would like to create a series of lesson plans in which I will incorporate multimedia learning technologies, a class website, and a wiki. The lessons will be integrated in the Discrimination Thematic Unit (based on the novel by Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird), which I am planning to teach to a group of advanced English as a second language (ESL) students at Center for English as a Second Language (CESL), the University of Arizona. The complete document of the Final Project Proposal can be viewed here

Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird
Dear SRL 70 students,
Below you will find the description of the project that you are required to complete before you start reading the novel. I have underlined the part of the assignment that you will complete on my wiki. If you have any questions about the project, see me on Monday or email me at geissler@email.arizona.edu.
Group Research Project
The Great Depression
We are going to read Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, which is set during the Great Depression. During the next two days in the computer lab, you will be researching events of the Great Depression. Then, you will post your stories on my wiki and peer-edit it. Afterwards, you will create a three-fold brochure in class to present your findings.
Step One: Choose a group of 3 people you will be working with.
Step Two: You will choose a question (questions) to research for the project. Assign each person one part of the brochure and include your name at the end of the final project.
Step Three: Research the questions in the lab using the resources that are provided (Hint: look in databanks and the web-pages I recommend). Do not forget to write down all the source information! You will need it for the bibliography!
Step Four: You need to type the answers to the questions you have researched. Then, as a homework assignment, you will post them on my wiki, peer edit, print, and bring them to class. At the end of each paragraph, include the name of the person who completed the research.
Step Five: From all the information gathered, create a timeline for the second side of the brochure. Make sure it is colorful and creative! The timeline needs to have TEN key dates relating to the Great Depression. Include pictures, symbols, and things to represent the event.
Step Six: The final side of the brochure is going to be the bibliography. Use MLA style for the bibliography.
Step Seven: In our class on Friday, we will construct the brochures. Have all of your information ready!
Questions to Be Researched:
1.What was the Great Depression and how long did it last?
2. What were the causes leading up to the Great Depression?
3. Who were the American leaders during the Great Depression?
4. What was the sequence of events making up the Great Depression and what were the dates? (create a timeline)
5. How did these events change America and its citizens?
Your project is worth 100 points. Creativity will be recognized.
You will be working in small groups, so I have created spaces for each group on my wiki. You can access your space by clicking on your name. After you have researched the information on the Great Depression, you will type it at home, create paragraphs, and post them in your group space. Your responsibility as a group is to revise the paragraphs for unity and development (Yes! You can do it on wiki!), edit them for grammar, spelling, and punctuation, print them, and bring to class on Friday. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck with your project!
